I Lost My Ballz!

Geesh!  Get your mind out of the dirt!  What the heck did ya think I meant?  So ok, I will let you off the hook in that I should have said, "I Lost My HERB Ballz!" 

Remember these guys? 

My Sister-in-Law gave them to me for Christmas and I was really excited for them and I love that they are for a good cause!  But I could only seem to find one, maybe two of them  :( 

The Basil, which I think is actually lemon basil from the scent.  I have never tried that, so I am super excited about it!

And then here is what I believe is left of one other...  Just clay, not real sure if it will do anything or not.

(The ground looks horrible, doesn't it?  It isn't really dry, just cracked from the river than ran thru in last weeks downpours.)

 

So it looks like I will go nab some plants from the store in hopes that they may even be on sale now!  See, there is a bright side to everything! 

Hey, at least I found my Ballz after all...and I still love them!  I think that if we had not had the crazy rain again this year and the complete take over of weeds because of it, they would have worked great!  I will give them another try next year in hopes that we wont have so wierd'a weather!  Have a great day guys!

Vegetable Gardening

Is there anything more promising than watching your Vegetable Garden grow?  Notice I said "Vegetable Garden".  Remember - "I Don't Do Cute!"  So I do not have an aptitude for flowers at all.  I love them, don't get me wrong!  But I don't fuss with them much.  Why???  We'd rather EAT!  Can I get an Amen?!

We have in our main garden:

• 24 Tomato Plants (not including volunteers)
• 4 Green Peppers
• 4 Red Peppers
• 4 Yellow Peppers
• 4 Jalapeno Peppers
• 4 Pepperoncini Peppers
• 3 Orange Peppers
• 4 Broccoli's
• 4 Brussel Sprouts
• 8 Sweet Potato Slips
• 1 1/2 Rows Irish Red Potatoes
• 1 Row Blue Lake Pole Beans
• 1 Row Marvel Snap Peas
• Detroit Red Beets
• Parsnip
• Turnip
• Radish
• Green Tail Onions
• 300 Onion Sets
• Various Types of Garlic
• 4 Celery Plants
• Basil
• Chives
• Dill
• Parsley
• Thyme
• Mint
• Cilantro
• Rhubarb
• We didn't get our Sweet Corn in this year...BUT...my Aunt Bena plants enough to go around thankfully!  Wait till you see what shakes down when that comes in!  FUN stuff!

• 2 Cantaloupe

• 4 More Tomato Plants

Around the grounds we have Grape Vines; Blueberry, Blackberry, Raspberry Bushes; Peach, Apple, Plum, Apricot, Cherry Trees.

The NEATEST thing we are trying out this year.....HerbBallz!

My Sister-In-Law got me these for Christmas and I have been super antsy to get them going!  They are little clay balls chalk full of herb seeds!  You don't actually "plant" them.  They sit on the ground and you are supposed to keep them whole and well watered.  Apparently the squirrels are less likely to steal them that way too.  Those squirrels might meet their end if they touch my HerbBallz!  ....I got another really neat thing for Christmas this year too!!  We will talk about that more during HUNTING season though!  Oh, and they come in other varieties too!  We have had alot of rain in these parts, so I hope the didn't sink much.

I will let you know how they are doing!  And one of the BEST things about this product if you haven't already read their story...they are hand rolled by persons with developmental disabilities.  So it is a great way of supporting something very dear to me as well.  I love them so far if for nothing other than that!

Dare I ask...are we gluttons for punishment or truly blessed to have the grounds and the support to do all this?  I think it is alot of both.  During canning season, it gets a little hectic!  But there is no greater reward!  I hope you stick around to see the crazy crops that come in and learn a few things along the way!
