"The Judge"

Last night we attended the annual Delta WaterFowl Banquet.  If you've never been to one, it's a pretty big deal and can get pretty exciting!  For folks like us at least :-)  Maybe some of you have been to similar ones for Ducks Unlimited, White Tails?

It's not just about hunting.  Being a responsible hunter, preservation, education etc.  It's actually a very respectable cause.  So the Banquet is a fund raiser as well.  Silent Auction, Live Auction, Raffles.  See, I told you it can be exciting!

My brother loves this stuff.  Now, you all can decide if they put him at the door as part bouncer or part salesman.  Either way, not many can argue with him.  Would you?
So when we walked in, he immediately said which line to get in and, "Give me $100!"  Now there's a salesman if I ever heard one, huh?
This is Jacquie and Steve's big event for the year.  They coordinate and run the Chapter.  She actually got a break just long enough to eat.  Otherwise it's non-stop running for her!  And might I mention, she is one of the few women who can keep my oaf of a brother in line?

Her husband Steve is the big MC man.  He does all the raffles too.  So you either love him or want to throw things at him when the big prizes elude you by one number!  Errrrr...
It's a family affair really.  Now, I went to High School with Jacquie.  I don't think either of us feels old though.  Until I consider her kids....
How does this happen???  She has a beautiful daughter who is a spit image of her.  Ok, now we are old.

I didn't get a picture of their son, but his name is Goo.  And I have no clue what his real name is!!  Most don't!

So if you didn't guess, we didn't win anything.  But there were others lucky enough for sure!  Sitting right next to me was my Dad.  He won what is called.....

  1. I have a love/hate relationship with silent auctions. I love to bid then I hate everyone who bids over me. You can find me camped out by the form giving the stink eye (or Kelso Eye as it will now be called) to anyone brave enough to come close. Oooh do you think your Bro would sub his time out and stand guard at my next silent auction. I bet no one would outbid then. Sucks you didnt win, but it was your Dad's lucky night!

  2. Jane, Kelso eye, huh? Ok! Well if my brothers size doesn't at least scare people off, he could always stand and block the view from others. He's as broad as a barn!

  3. Fun times! I too, want to know how that happens so fast - all my high school friends have kids graduating and mine, well, I've got a LONG way to go LOL!

  5. What a nice piece! And it suits him!! I bet he'll have fun waiving that thing around and scaring the crap out of unsuspecting children. Oh wait! I forgot...he's a grownup! Perhaps he will need it some day to protect himself and his right to freedom.

  7. Sounds like a very fun event. I love silent auctions. I think they're a great way to have fun, socialize, and raise money for good causes.
