Pour Me Something Tall and Strong

Yes'm.

Pour me something tall and strong
Make it a Hurricane before I go insane!

The rains held out today.  80% chance for severe weather and not one drop!  Go figure!  Naturally I postponed a trip to the strawberry patch with my girlfriend based on this information.  I can't win.

But the weather holding off was a relief for Pig Pen.  One of the things he hoped to accomplish this week was the barn floor!  Check!
Can you see that big thing behind our tractor?  Can you imagine what it weighs hauling 10 yards of concrete?  On top of our swamp of a yard?  OK, whatever, that is the least of our worries, huh?  Not a summer has gone by that we aren't filling some kind of hole(s) in!  :)
Foot deep there!
As you know he has worked really hard to restore the ole barn!  We have discussed what type of critters we intend to do next.  The field has been narrowed down to a few hogs or goats.  I have lots more homework to do either way.  Leaning towards bacon and eggs.
He installed drains inside and at the entries.

And of course the extra concrete went into Missy's pen this year too.  Pretty soon she'll have a nice patio and lawn chairs!

Thanks to all the guys who helped out today!
We really do appreciate your hard work!
Love you all!
While they were outside pouring, I finally managed to scrounge up enough rhubarb to get the wine started.  No "pouring" of it for me though :(  Six months is a long time to find out if you jacked it up or not!
And thank goodness for close friends with the 'been there done that' behind them.  I found out that unless there is a pretty little map I need better direction that what is written in a recipe!  At this point, even if it turns out like Moonshine, I'll drink it!

This next little drink is a throw back to what a friend made back when I was traveling for work.  It was Mardi Gras week so he made Hurricanes.  Alcohol tends to give me a headache the next day but he insisted that we try them.  It's an itty bitty one in a Dixie cup and he called them...
Windstorms!  :o}

It's the only kind of Windstorm I would even relish right now :o)  Headache or not.

Pantry Post Update coming next!!

  1. What a whole lot of work you have done on that barn . . . but what a beauty it is going to be! That man of yours is so talented. He seems to be a true jack-of-all-trades. Keep him. He'll keep coming in handy. ;o}

    Boy, it's too bad you can't drink much 'cause you sure deserve to tie one on right now. Hopefully you are now done with the unbelievably bad weather in your part of the world. Go get them strawberries, Girl!

  2. MamaPea, Yes I intend to keep him forever and ever. But he knows that :) I was just showing him Jody's (Spring Garden Acre) mobile coop too saying "Cmon...you can do that in no time!" I feel it coming...

  3. Your barn looks perfect for pigs, especially with the drains. It's beautiful! Your drink looks so pretty. I sometimes miss having a drink to try new types.

  5. Well, not your LAST post...but "Old People Need Sleep" post.

    I just read your other posts...Wow are you lucky! Same thing happened to our neighbors last years. Fried all the electronics.

  6. That barn looks FAB-U-LOUS!! What an amazing amount of work you guys are doing.

    I would love to share a virtual Windstorm with you. The drink, that is. Not the weather. In MN at this point, we're just assuming the weather will turn out to be the opposite of what the weather forecast is. They are SO off this year!

  7. Talk about a remarkable recovery. You went from destructive storm to large scale construction overnight. The floor looks great! I wish I had skills like that. We'd never have to pay a contractor again.

  8. At least you fill the ruts in, we leave them in here, then you break your ankle on the way to the laundry line. I also indulged in 2, yes 2 margaritas last night and I am headache free. And I completely forgot all about the mess outside. Maybe that is the only way to get through this season,

  9. I AGREE-REMARKABLE RECOVERY. BUT THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT YOU NEED RIGHT NOW-GET BACK INTO THE GROVE.IF I HAD A NICE FLOOR IN A NICE BARN I'D PUT ALL MY PIGGIES IN THERE TO SLEEP AT NIGHT,AND I AIN'T TALKING ANIMALS HERE!

  10. The barn is fantastic! I agree with the bacon n'eggs, we purchase our pork from a farm here and that is one animal where the quality of the meat of pasture raised is VERY evident in quality and taste!

  11. Ruth, I like to try new ones too buy usually they just try me!

    Tami, haha! Dirty bird! :oD But I can see where that could have lead. I am hoping for rain for you too! Your gardens started out SO awesome, I hate to see it end badly!

    MamaTea, they are just plain "Off" everywhere! Gardeners this year can't catch a break!

    Jody, we don't pay contractors at all and it is wonderful to have such a guy like my PigPen! Which is why this whole repairman business for insurance purposes is just AGGRAVATING! We'd of had everythig from the storm done by now! Well, we as in he... :)

    Jane, oh there are a few out by the garden that still trip me up every dang year too! Yeah for you!!! Two drinks and no hangover!

    Judy, so how many kids/piggies are we talking here!?! Maybe momma needs a heavy hand? Or a cattle prod? Good luck with that!

    Erin, yeah we are certainly leaning that way. I really want to get away from the meat counter at the store all together. So we get beef from the farmer down the road and it is 100% pastured, we will have our own yard bird, so I am thinking pork next. Just wish I had room for a dairy cow! So maybe goats some other time?
